PR specialist Gabrielle Shaw - former journalist, advertising executive and TV news producer – has grown lifestyle PR agency GSC from a seed to a blossoming tree in ten years. Her aim was to create a company where staff and clients were encouraged to push boundaries, and good ideas were nurtured and allowed to take form and truly make a difference for clients. She wanted big agency thinking while maintaining the ability to be nimble, proactive and seize the best opportunities.

 

At the time, Gabrielle found the culture of large PR agencies creatively inhibiting, and the lack of training and accountability in most small agencies unsatisfactory. Thus, boutique agency, Gabrielle Shaw Communications was founded in 1996 – with the mission to combine the accountability traditionally found in larger agencies with the creativity and hands-on approach of smaller agencies.

 

The company soon made a name for itself when GSC pitched against a large, established agency to win newcomer Seattle Coffee Company when it was still a very small company. As a result, GSC was at the forefront of fuelling the coffee trend in the UK. In 1998 SCC and Starbucks Coffee Company merged and GSC was retained on the recommendation of Starbucks’ chairman Howard Schultz. GSC remained their retained agency for five more years in the UK – an exception to the rule as every other coffee company had their press offices in-house.

 

And GSC continues to impress their clients by ensuring they get the right kind of coverage including regular exposure in the most stylish and influential media. We now work with clients in a wide variety of lifestyle sectors: food & drink, luxury goods, children’s wear, travel, gardening, and homes & interiors.
